Characteristic for Emilia Nyka's painting are bright colours, dynamic planes and violent, expressive compositions. But not only this. Although the artist advocates realistic painting, she uses its non-traditional conventions. Her painting does not present reality as directly perceived. The subject of her painting is indirect reality - the reality of the film image. “These paintings are my history of film […] These paintings are the effect of rewinding and reproducing - she writes. The painting cycle of Emilia Nyka results from her fascination in film and the video medium. Frames from films by Polański, Almodovar and Spielberg, visual references to Star Wars and Dangerous Liaisons become an object of her searches open to the multimediality of the contemporary culture. Moving film frames are stopped and then processed and recreated on canvas. The immaterial film pictures acquire a sensual materiality. The mechanically reproduced film becomes the object of non-mechanic action of the artist. Emilia Nyka uses oil technique. She is involved both in painting and in graphics.
