Magdalena Ochabska: In a virtual world
The painting cycle of Magdalena Ochabska, new Latająca Galeria’s artist, results from the inspiration with conversations the artist had in a web portal. Using the language of web users, she creates her own painting language and creates the author commentary to the functioning of man in a partially cybernetic world.
The world of e-mail, monochromatic font communicating only the meaning of words is recreated by the artist into a multicolour and multiform world of meanings going beyond words. The artist cuts out stencils which she covers in paint and prints on canvas. These stencils - sometimes fragile, made of perishable materials - are decisive for the uniqueness of her works.
Magdalena Ochabska studied in the Institute of Arts in Cieszyn (University of Katowice). She was participating in many individual and group exhibitions. She uses acrylic and oil paints as well as techniques used in graphics: linoleum-block printing and monotyping. She also combines her painting activity with other forms of artistic activity - including theatre and happening.
