Mateusz Sikora

The artist comes from a family of artists: his father, Tomek Sikora, is a photographer and his grandfather, StanisƂaw, was a sculptor. Mateusz Sikora graduated from the Sculpture Faculty of the Australian Victorian College of Arts in Melbourne but came back to his fatherland and took over his grandfather’s studio. He participated over 30 exhibitions in Australia, Belgium, Poland and Sweden.

Mateusz Sikora makes sculptures of human figures in bronze. He has chosen a traditional technique and mastered it to perfection. He shows deformed, “twisted” figures that seem to be wrestling with life – as he says, he is interested in “the entanglement in emotions”. His earlier works showed fantastic cartoon-like heroes and the new creations are more psychologically interesting, more expressive and sensual. They are so full of life that you may feel like touching them. The author does not give titles to his sculptures, he prefers to leave some room for imagination.
