Marta TomczykShe completed her studies with the chief Rector’s Award. Now, she works as an assistant at the Fine Arts Academy in Łódź. She has had several exhibitions in Poland and her works have made their way to English and German collections. She joins the techniques ofetching and aquatint (which produces a contrast between lines and colourful stains). She also makes oil paintings. She has made a success with a series of engravings called “The man – time and space” (2002).
Her canvases enchant the viewer with the lightness of the picture and the luminous, toned down range of colours. Human figures (frequently the same ones shown in different variations) emerge from mysterious backgrounds. The relations between the figures remain undefined and sketchy. Melancholic scenes, full of quiet eroticism remind of ancient mural paintings – as if they had managed to stop the time. Even abstract pictures have the samespecial atmosphere of poetry and intimacy.
