Cut-outs by Katarzyna Kmita combine traditional motifs from the Łowicz region with pop culture icons. The world of folk ornamentation encounters characters from Disney cartoons, Lego characters, TV idols and worldwide corporation logos. The artist removes the context from both folk tradition as well as separating the icons of pop culture from mainstream ideas. Cut-outs can depict the global world and the confusion of concepts in which form counts more than content. They create a reality in which former senses are transformed into negated ornaments.
