Dorota BergerThese are more images-dreams than pictures that illustrate reality” - says the artist. Dorota Berger’s art is born in travel. Literately and metaphorically, as it means both real travel and imaginary travel inspired by fairy tales, baroque music, old gardens, palaces and medieval and early Renaissance painting. And this is not all. What motivates the artist is also children art - created by the force of intensive and unconventional methods of experiencing the world. If painting does not reflect the reality but rather incessantly creates the rules of its experiencing, this is the painting art that is practised by Dorota Berger. Figurative, soothing compositions, warm colours, seemingly static, geometrically shaped in the space are in fact a bold manifesto. A manifesto of the right to one’s own sensitiveness. This is just why the artist does not like to finish her thoughts, to draw “the only suitable” methods of reception of her paintings. „I am afraid to specify them too much” - she confesses. Is it not that the specifications destroy the space in which imagination could rule? Dorota Berger uses tempera. She paints - just like the old masters - on boards. |
