The paintings of Weronika Borgosz in essence encompass two classical subjects: portrait and still life. However, what is particular in her paintings is the way of depiction which gives these ‘tangible’ topics ethereality, delicacy, luminosity. Somewhat faint, but warm colours, as if seen through mist, toned, as if diluted by a certain subtleness with forms almost vanishing into the background. And these are usually light, neutral, and monochromatic. Only here and there, is there a spot or line of intense blackness. As if sketching what is the most important: the line of an eye, the conture of lips, the shape of a bottle or pot. This delicacy of the paintings appears to owe a lot to a very classic technique, nowadays rarely used - yolk tempera.
In portraits which predominantly depict girls, young women and self-portraits, Weronika's style reveals itself the best: delicacy, subtlety, purity, exceptional sketching. Girlishness, childishness, still somewhat immature, but beautiful and pure. A topic which resonates with the formal side of the paintings.
The still life of Weronika Borgosz conveys the beauty of simple things: a table, a table cloth, dishes. Close and familiar. Beautiful, everyday life. The quiet beauty of simplicity. A number of them have something of the elegance of Matisse, others – the geometric modesty of the purists.
