Łukasz Huculak, Higiena4.12.2009 - 16.01.2010 Łukasz Huculak has re-discovered white. His palette has become lighter. After the greys and browns dominant in his previous paintings – this illumination is purifying and this is how he is painting now. Łukasz Huculak’s latest work will be presented at an exhibition in the Latająca Galeria in December. Why white? The shift in colour is significant. White is associated with cleanliness and order with organization and clarity. It evokes thoughts of hygiene and sterility, though this may sound too politically correct and moderately medical. Nevertheless, along with hygiene as we understand it, there is also spiritual hygiene, the purifying of corrupt emotions and the restoring of an internal balance. This takes us to back to ancient traditions which sought this important ‘purifying’ function in art. Exhibition spaces, museums, galleries, socles and the display cabinets appearing in Huculak’s paintings are a sign of order and the purification of vision, thought and knowledge. This aspect of his art is extremely important for him.
